My main goal as GreenDIYEnergy reviewer (and indeed reviewer of products in general) is to hopefully, provide
the reader with some kind of fair and accurate summary of, not only the positive but ALSO the negative attributes
of this product.
From then on it's up to the reader - the potential purchaser - to make up their own mind as to the overall
suitability of the product for their intended purposes.
The key point here is that online reviews are notoriously "one-sided". There's often a vested interest in giving
you the positive and selectively leaving out any "negative" points a particular product might have.
With these things in mind. I'd like to open by writing a little about the product in general.

GreenDIYEnergy is a home energy information package which claims to provide a complete step by step solution to
planning, building and installing a working DIY home solar power generation system which can be either solar or
wind power based.
Firstly let me say that one thing you don't want to do is to be ripped off,
wasting your money on useless products. The problem with a lot of these home energy packages in past years is that
they simply haven't always lived up to expectations - especially when put under close scrutiny. Sometimes
they can be confusing, inaccurate and lets face it, ridiculously overpriced. You find this a lot with
products purchased online actually.
Two issues surface here. Firstly, I was interested to learn that
GreenDIYEnergy claims to sell over 4000 units per month. Secondly, the package is aimed at anyone from novice upwards.
I found that the GreenDIYEnergy package consists of three parts. At first
inspection it seemed to show pretty much everything I'd probably ever need or want to know about designing,
building, implementing and maintaining a home based solar and/or
wind powered system.
GreenDIYEnergy shows you how easy it is to make homemade solar
panels and wind turbines to augment or if you want to, replace your existing electricity
connection.
You're given detailed plans and
photos to get you on your way to building your first solar panel for something in the order of $100. You're also
provided with a solar panel wiring diagram guide with information on how to hookup your solar panels and
connect them to a battery bank (which you'll need to build in order to store your generated electricity).
Finally you're given instructions on how to best mount your solar panels so that they're optimized to generate
the best amount of electricity for where you live - because you definitely want them working at their full
potential.
Thanks to some nice bonuses with GreenDIYEnergy
you're given plans for a wind turbine power generation system as well - which you can built for under $150. 60
minutes of educational video are also included as well as a consumer guide to solar energy and some supplementary
information on US and Canadian tax rebates.
Regarding the accompanying manual, I was surprised as to the amount
of material which is included with GreenDIYEnergy. It's actually very good. I've seen other products
priced much higher that have included far less value for
money.

The system is considerate towards people on a budget who want to use recycled
parts. While you're free to use them when building any project I'd generally recommend against it. Most
people always find they get better (at least, more consistent) results by using
new parts whenever possible.
I personally use mostly new parts because I'm usually so excited to
complete our projects in a hurry and don't want to spend extra time hunting around for second hand parts - but that's entirely up to you. I've found in the past
that buying certain new parts can sometimes be only marginally more expensive. Anyway that's been
standard practice when I review and build anything so it's a general recommendation and not just one I make
for the sake of this GreenDIYEnergy review.
Anyway onto the price. Obviously
the more bang for your buck you get the better. Considering this product is priced around the same as it's
competitor's I think it offers much better value.
An if you're thinking of hiring a professional to do
all of this for you, just shop around and compare the cost of DIY products (like GreenDIYEnergy as an
example) with the cost of a pro solar or wind installation. People
are usually really shocked when they see how
exorbitantly priced a pro installation is compared to a good DIY solution.
Okay then, a lot of positives here. Now for the
negatives.
Firstly, these information packages aren't for
everyone. If you can't drive a nail or climb a ladder then don't bother with this product or ANY product like
it.
Don't get me wrong, this thing takes you by the hand
and guides you step by step. You don't have to be a tradesman but you do have to have a very basic idea of well,
basic tools in order to succeed at the included products. But if you're the kind of person who is always falling of
that ladder and having accidents I'd pass on using DIY products like this.
Secondly, you have to have some degree of basic
computer literacy skills in order to use the extensive materials included in the product. And if you have
an aversion to watching video' s from your computer screen it will be an issue. Otherwise you should be just
fine.
Finally, although you can easily do most of the work
yourself, for the sake of safety you
MUST spend the necessary money to hire a qualified electrical contractor to connect the wiring for you. This
is not a big issue as it's not a major job and it won't cost a bundle but you must take this into
account both for budgeting and peace of mind. Note though that this is the same scenario with ANY
competing home energy package not just GreenDIYEnergy.
To conclude, all things considered then GreenDIYEnergy certainly does seem a great
value, well thought out and easy to follow product. For my purposes it delivered a solid job of
showing - and in some detail - how I could build a couple of nice and robust working solar and wind
power projects. It's also a popular product which must be testimony in itself as to it's
integrity.
In closing, I hope this GreenDIYEnergy review has been helpful to you and I
wish you good luck and success in your DIY projects.
